CSE169 - Computer Animation

Course Objectives: This course will supplement the other class (CSE 168 on rendering algorithms
Course Description: Advanced graphics class focuses on the programming techniques involved in computer animation.
Algorithms and approaches for both character animation and physically based animation will be covered.
Particular subjects may include skeletons, skinning, key framing, facial animation, inverse kinematics,
locomotion, motion capture, video game animation, particle systems, rigid bodies, clothing, hair, and
other techniques.
Format: 3 hours of lecture per week, 1 hour of discussion section, 1 hour of lab per week, and 7 hours
outside preparation
Prerequisites: A good understanding of linear algebra. CSE 167 or consent of instructor.
Other restrictions: Majors only.
Laboratory work: Programming projects.
Offered: One quarter per year, normally in the Spring.
