CSE 260 Grading and Course Policies
Fall 2005
Scott B. Baden

Grading

Grading will be based on homework assignments, the midterm, and a project. Some of the homework assignments will be done individually others may be done in teams of two.  The project may also be done in a team of two.

Homework assignments (50%)
There will be 4 or 5 homework assignments. The assignments will vary in form: commenting on assigned readings,  working out pencil and paper designs, programming and experimentation.  Some will be more involved than others.  For the assignments done individually, I encourage you to discuss the  assignments with your classmates,  but be sure to think and write independently. Similar rules apply to groups. If you aren't sure about this, see me.  Here are some notes on technical writing .

Project (30%)
There will be a 4 week mini research project.  You may work individually, or in a team of two or three.  I will discuss the projects around the fourth week of the quarter. If you have an idea for a research project, come see me.
Midterm (20%)
The midterm will be in class, closed book and closed notes.

Academic Integrity

I expect you to do your own work. Though I don't expect there to be a problem in a graduate course, academic integrity which will be strictly enforced. Anyone found plagiarizing another's work, or making their own work available to others, will receive a 0 on the assignment or test and face other possible consequences.   You are assumed to be familiar with the Academic Honestly Policies for this course, as described in the following document: http://www.cse.ucsd.edu/~baden/Integrity.html. If you aren't sure about this policy be sure and see me.

Lateness

I'll accept late assignments not later than Friday of the week the assignment is due. A penalty of 5% will be assessed for each day the assignment is late.
