I was denied admission to computer science and computer engineering, but I am interested in other aspects of engineering. Can I become a major in another Jacobs School of Engineering department?
Every department in Jacobs School is excellent, and the other Jacobs School majors may be open to you.
Contact the academic advisors of the other departments for details.

If I become a major in another engineering department, can I minor in CSE?
No. If you are a major in any department of the Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD, you may not take a minor in the CSE Department.

Although I am not a computer science or computer engineering major, can I enroll in classes offered by the CSE Department?
These courses are highly impacted and first priority is given to CSE students. We try to accommodate students from other Jacobs School departments as much as possible, but enrollment is resources-available basis. Contact Patricia Raczka at 858-534-3621 or raczka@cs.ucsd.edu .

What is the difference between computer science and math/computer science?
The two majors differ in their emphasis and in their lists of required courses. The math/computer science major has many fewer required computer science and engineering courses and more required mathematics courses. Again, you should contact a Mathematics Department advisor for details.

If I enroll into the math/computer science major can I change later on into a computer science or computer engineering major?

What is the CSE Exceptional Admissions Program and can I apply for admission through this program?
Yes, any UCSD student may apply for admission into the CSE Department through the CSE Exceptional Admission Program.
