UC San Diego welcomes you. Transfer students are strongly advised to complete as many
preparatory courses for their major as soon as possible before enrolling at UC
San Diego. Preparing well for the major helps students move efficiently toward
graduation.
Admission into the CSE Department is processed in two steps and students should receive two
letters of notification.
Transfer students who apply to the CSE Department and who do not
receive the second letter indicating whether or not they were admitted
to the CSE Department must contact UCSD's Office of Undergraduate Admissions at
(858/534-4831). Starting Fall 2001 Transfer Students are admitted directly into a CSE major
instead of a Pre-CSE major.
- First Step: Transfer Students must apply
directly to the
UC San Diego Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools and be admitted.
- Second Step: Transfer Students admitted to UC San Diego will have a second evaluation of
their course work
by the Admissions
Office in the Jacobs School of Engineering and the CSE Department. This second evaluation is
a performance
review of physics, math and computer science transfer courses and is in accordance with
admission requirements
for all Departments in the Jacobs School of Engineering.

It is the mission of UC San Diego Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools, in conjunction with other
components of the campus, to provide programs, activities and services for prospective students,
parents, school and community college personnel, and the general public which:
- Attract and enroll an undergraduate student body with highly competitive academic capabilities,
which is representative of the diversity of the people of California.
-
Increase the presence and awareness of UCSD through marketing, promotional and recruitment activities
to prospective students and their parents, high schools, community colleges and the general public.
-
Encourage and increase cooperative educational relationships between UC San Diego and California high schools,
community colleges and educational organizations.
Heavy interest in CSE
Because of heavy student interest in the CSE Department, limited
resources available to accommodate this high demand, and maintenance of
a high quality program we find it necessary to limit enrollments.
Admission to the department as a major, transfer, or minor student is in
accordance with the general requirements established by the Jacobs
School of Engineering.
