CSE175 - Social and Ethical Issues in Information Technology
Units: 4
Course Objectives: To give students the background they need to understand and make intelligent decisions about information technology in today's world.
Course Description: Social aspects of information technology, with an emphasis on ethical issues. Topics include ethical theories, privacy and security, spam, e-commerce, the digital divide, open souce software, open source software, medical informatics, actor-network theory,some neo-classical economics.
Format: 3 hours of lecture per week, 1 hour of discussion per week, and 8 hours of outside preparation per week.
Prerequisites: CSE 100, or Math 176.
Other restrictions: Majors only.
