What's new?

I have accepted a position of Ubiquitous Computing Researcher at Intel Research, Seattle. I will be beginning my stint at Intel in October this year. My broad area of research is wireless networking. In particular, I have mainly worked in solving research challenges in the deployment of Public-Area Wireless Networks (PAWNs). My advisors are Geoff Voelker and Venkat Rangan.

Representative Software
WRAPI, is a software library for real-time monitoring and control of an 802.11 Wireless LAN. WRAPI enables applications to be more "wireless-aware", i.e., to adapt dynamically to fluctuations in network behavior caused by varying channel conditions and frequent end-user mobiity. WRAPI has been downloaded by over 30 universities and labs worldwide.
WLAN workload trace, Utilitites and scripts for sampling and logging SNMP trace data from access points, typically used to study wireless LAN performance. Used in one of the first detailed wireless LAN characterizations and modeling studies.

About Myself

I'm a graduate student here at UCSD. I got my Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in 1995, and my Masters in Chemical Engineering from Columbia Uniiversity, New York in 1997. Sometime that year, I got excited about the idea of "working in Multimedia" and came here to UCSD to work with Venkat Rangan. I am now working in the area of high-speed wireless networks and am co-advised by Geoff Voelker and Venkat Rangan.
