Writing examples to discuss II

CONVINCING THE READER

Clarity, concision, and congruity are the main important concepts that will unquestionably influence the effectiveness and understanding of any piece of written work.

I also believe that a nonfiction writer should usually use a relatively neutral-sounding tone, somewhat similar to Wikipedia's "neutral point of view," even when trying to advance an argument.  The point is to acknowledge all relevant sides of the issue and to avoid sounding biased or overly emotional, even while directing the reader to form a particular opinion.  This style of writing is more likely to be taken seriously.

"Good" nonfiction writing requires certain style and organization techniques, the specifics of which seem to be subject to some debate.

The importance of organization in projects is expressed. ... The importance of a well written plan is expressed.

THINKING CRITICALLY

He explains why Programming Systems products are nine times as resource consuming as a simple program.

Simson Garfinkel is an Associate Professor and an author. ... He also has successfully registered five patents and has obtained eighteen awards, including MIT Presidential Fellowship.

... the book ... argues that the current trend of ... marketing which is specifically targeted at one individual and their preferences, location, etc. is an unhealthy movement.  ... As an example of this, he mentions a hospital which sent notices to their former patients requesting donations and discusses how this could be a problem for anyone wanting to be discrete about their time in the hospital.
